V1.6 Update Dev Diary and Changelog


Hey folks!

I've been busy working on some mechanics to simulate non-player historical figures. None of it’s visible yet, but I'm working on it!

For instance, if a fish kills you, it should become a historical figure with its birth etc all added to its history. With a chance of being caught by a fisherman, starving, or whatever fits the region it’s in off screen in play. And ive just been working on all the code needed for that to happen in a generic way to all historical figures.

That isn’t fully implemented yet, but I did move all the new text from the last update into the block files, adding a ton more variation.

I also squashed some bugs along the way.

Unfortunately thats just how it is sometimes with game dev.

I wanted to get more of that done today, but instead I spent several hours cleaning my house very thoroughly because it was quite messy and my parents will be visiting in a few weeks.

Just adulting things.

It will probably be done in the next week (the hist fig stuff) which will mean i'm almost done with all the things i wanted to do for this project. Which is neat. Maybe i'll finally finish one!

Changes:

-Added much more interesting text for when you are confused and trying to examine things while confused.

-Added many more possible "died of hunger" messages.

-In the back end the game can now distinguoish between kills and being killed for canon viewer purposes (this change is not visible to players)

-Ensured all non-player hist figs can die of old age (this was already implemented in game, but it also needed  to happen to off screen non-player hist figs) (This is also invisible, since the only hist figs right now are you and your various past lives, which are already dead but can come back as ghosts)

-Fixed a bug with one of the ghost death historical messages
