No Utopia: A PostModern Space RPG Tech Demo
A downloadable game for Windows and Linux
Check out this tech demo—it’s (planned to be) a surreal space pizza delivery sim! The goal is to nail down all the basic mechanics here and then create a brand-new project with a fresh name with this as a base once it’s ready.
There's not much "real" gameplay yet—you get to explore and fly around a beautiful low-poly solar system, blast some asteroids (or comets if you venture into the Oort cloud), rack up a high score, and bounce off things.
It has no loading screens everything is dynamiclaly loaded in as you move/fly around.
It features a Newtonian gravity-based simulation of a solar system with orbits, planets, and more. You can land on, fly around, warp to, and walk on these planets and walk around in your ship (Once you are landed, planning on getting that woking in space too) . The art style? Absolutely fantastic.
Nothing to get overly excited about... but hey, you can explore an entire solar system (and the planets in it). It dynamically loads in asteroid belts and other cool stuff as you fly or walk around. You can even walk all the way around a planet if you want. The sky is simulated, so it’s nighttime on the night side of the planet, and you can watch sunrises and sunsets
. Not that they do much, but you can also warp around if flying across an entire solar system sounds like a drag.
Oh, and it has a DR4X reference or two!
So if that sounds like something you're interested in, maybe hang around.. Updates come out slowly for this one. But maybe its worth it? I dunno man, I just make things.
It doesn’t have a tutorial so here’s an explanation of ship controls!
Spaceship controls:
Your spacecraft operates on Newtonian physics, similar to the mechanics in "Outer Wilds." This means you'll need to maneuver like a real space pilot by managing your velocity with thrusts in various directions.
• Strafing: Use A and D to move left and right.
• Rolling: Use Q and E to roll your spacecraft.
• Thrusting:
• W to thrust forward at camera direction.
• S to thrust backward opposite of camera direction.
• Shift to boost whatever thrusters you are using (x2 speed).
• Camera Movement: Move your camera with the mouse.
• Shooting: Press Space to shoot.

ooooh will there be stuff like combat and trading?
Indeed. Once i can figure out how to make docking with space stations work lmao
oooh nice :)
is this thrust newtonian??
Yes, but there is also an obviously inaccurate very tiny amount of drag in space in the game
Great to see you still working on stuff bud!
i never stopped lol, dr4x dev has just been most/all of my dev time
